As a 2nd grade teacher, something that brings me joy is to decorate my classroom door each month. And for the month of February I love Valentine classroom door decorations. I enjoy how it can build a sense of community in my classroom when I use my students’ names and work in  the decorations. If you display students’ work, it helps motivate students to do their best when you display it as part of your classroom door decorations. So today I’m sharing the valentine classroom door ideas you can use.

Valentine Classroom Door Decorations

We all know that the month of January feels so long in the classroom. So when the calendar hits February, I celebrate by putting up Valentine classroom door decorations.

My students love a good word pun. So I was brainstorming some Valentine’s puns I could use with the display. I thought about how cupid has an arrow and the point of the arrow is sharp. And of course I think all my students are sharp, so I decided to make unique valentine’s day door decorations for classroom with that theme.

I made a sign that says, “We’re as Sharp as Cupid’s Arrow.” Then I found some cute heart clip art with an arrow going through it. I added my students’ names to each one, cut them out, and hung them up.

To make it a little more colorful, I added banner with a cute pattern underneath the sign. It really tied in all the bright colors.

When students see this Valentine door display for the first time, they love searching through the hearts and finding their names. It helps remind students that they are a part of our classroom. That our class would be so different without them. Students feel that they are special enough to have their name on our classroom door. It helps build a positive classroom community.

You can create variations of this. Instead of a sign that says, “We’re as Sharp as Cupid’s Arrow” you can print out the letters, cut them out, hang them up. This would also look really great if you decide to use this idea as a bulletin board display. The letters will really stand out. Find the printable letters to “We’re as Sharp as Cupid’s Arrow” here.

You can also get students more involved by turning this into a little writing project. First brainstorm synonyms for the word smart. Students come up with words like intelligent, bright, sharp, and clever. Another idea to get started is to talk about how “sharp” has multiple meanings. One meaning is talking about how something has an edge that can cut. Another meaning is talking about how smart someone is.

Then ask students how they know they are smart or sharp. Is it because they work hard in class to finish their homework or because they know their math facts? Maybe it’s because they study their spelling words at home or read every night before bed? It could be lots of things, but help students get their ideas going.

After that, have them complete the sentence to “I am sharp because…” I have them do this on a paper that has an arrow that is bent into a heart. Then they color the outline of it a Valentine’s color like red, pink, or purple. You can hang this up on the door display or bulletin board display. Find this writing project here.

I hope these valentine classroom door ideas have helped you see how you can make things simple yet fun for yourself and your students in the month of February. There are many ways you can use these Valentine Classroom Door Decorations. Simply put your students’ names on the hearts or have them complete a little writing project.
